----Irina’s approach to painting is deeply rooted in her cultural and educational background. Inspired by Russian artists: Repin, Shishkin, Serov and later by Nicolai Fechin Irina is teaching in the classical Russian impressionist style. In her class she focuses on color mixing concepts, materials, ideas, and the processes of painting. Participants will learn simple and direct approaches to the characteristics of light, shadow, atmospheric perspective, and gradation as applied to painting the effects of light.
----Working from still-lifes or photographs is the best way to learn how to crop, frame, and simplify your subject to make a strong powerful composition. Based on her Russian classical art education Irina can teach how to achieve an accurate drawing to gain both technical mastery and an intuitive understanding of nature. She also will share with you simple secrets of oil painting as well as her “way of seeing”.
Class includes short lectures, discussions, painting, and individual instruction and critique. Demonstrations will be in oil, but acrylic and pastel painters are welcome. A supply list will be sent with your confirmation (approximate cost $120); you may have many of these supplies if you are already a painter.
